Replacing the brakes on your Phat Scooter is simple and does not require many tools. There are slight differences between the models for this process. Follow these steps for a quick and easy replacement.
HD and HD Golf
- All of the wires are covered with a plastic casing, this will need to be removed.
- Start on one end and begin to uncoil the plastic all the way down to expose the brake wires.
- Use the key in the breast plate to take out the battery.
- Remove the two screws under the battery.
- There are four plastic plugs on the deck that need to be removed to access the four 10mm bolts. There will also be one bolt at the top of the breast plate that will need to be removed with a 5mm allen wrench.
- The battery tray will come out easily. Remove the plastic triangle shaped breast plate.
- Follow the brake cords all the way down to their connections and cut all of the zip ties.
- Take a picture of the connection before you unclip to ensure you clip them back together correctly. Sometimes there are more connectors than needed and therefore not all of them will be used.
- Unclip the connections.
- Unbolt the brake assembly 6mm allen and exchange for new brake assembly re-install bolts and tighten.
- Re-wrap the cords down the frame of the scooter and add zip ties.
- Reattach the wire connections according the picture you took in Step 8.
- Wrap the wires back up with the plastic casings.
- Reattach the breast plate and deck.
- Plug the battery back in and test drive the scooter to ensure everything was done correctly.
Phatty and Sport
- All of the wires are covered with a plastic casing, this will need to be removed.
